The collection contains manuscripts and/or typescripts of novels, short stories, a play, two operas, a poem, and an essay. The majority of his correspondence concerns publication matters. Letters to Grant Richards discuss "The outsiders" which Chambers wants published in England. Letters to Stone and Kimball reflect Chambers's displeasure with the publishing firm and criticize their handling of "In the band." A letter to George Haven Putnam expresses displeasure with advertising for "Maker of moons." Letters to Harper Brothers enquire after proof. Chambers also regrets an offer re "The king in Tellois" from Volney Streamer, and settles a translation problem for Charles W. Pilgrim. In other letters he sends an autograph inscription, responds to an invitation, describes a trip to Florida and his interest in pirates of the Keys, and alludes to the production of one of his works by Augustin Daly. A letter from his brother Walter B. Chambers to Putnam discusses English serial rights. The collection also contains some miscellaneous notes and a printed obituary.
